March Crafts

March has been a hard month, as we are all getting anxious for the snow to be gone! The temps are starting to warm up (yesterday it got to 34F!) and we have tons of daylight. If only the 3 1/2 feet of snow would go away! So to pass a little time, we have done some crafts.

This wool hat is Derek's very first sewing project. Much of it was sewn by hand. He gave it to his friend Sam (pictured here).

This apron idea was inspired by a pattern that my friend Suzzee has that uses a men's shirt to make an apron. Seeing as Suzzee lives WAY too far away for me to run over and take a peak at her pattern, I tried my own thing. This apron is for Emilie anyway so the pattern probably wouldn't have worked out too well. Anyway, I think it turned out great, especially since I have only basic sewing skills!

The front of the apron is the back of the men's shirt. Reused the pocket and all the buttons, along with the collar. Added the pink ribbon of course.

Used Dora the Explorer as my apron model as Emmie was in school. Dora comes in handy for so many different things! Someday I hope to make a manly apron for Dawson when he helps in the kitchen. I will use a denim shirt, and plan to use intentional fraying around the edges similar to a rag quilt.

Emilie made this headband out of leather and posed for this picture. I love it because it looks like she is doing some sort of storytelling dance...but she's just being a ham!

This is a picture Emilie drew of a MONSTER. I think it is great!

Here is how she signed the back--as you can see, she
put a "B" in DAD, but oh so cute!

I would include a picture of Dawson's artwork, but he is sleeping at the moment and don't want to wake him up. He decided to decorate the walls in his room using a piece of chalk (we don't even know where he found it!). Of course it will clean off easily, but boy were we unhappy when we found it! He has also expressed himself by pulling moulding off the door frame, punching holes in a box with a pencil, and scribbling on some mail waiting to go to the post office. He is certainly crafty, just in a rascal sort of way! Gotta love him!

Christian Radio on the Air!

Lifting the tower before placing it on the foundation.

On the air!

We are very pleased to say that we now have Christian radio on the air in Teslin. It has taken over two years of working and waiting, but it is now here! This last week we have been working on getting the tower erected and the equipment set up. At noon on Friday we turned the equipment on and began running on test mode. There are some official inspections that need to be made in the next month, but for now we can go ahead and operate the station. We have been experiencing some eratic gliches, and we ask for prayer that we can isolate and resolve the problems. It is such an encouaragement to hear great Christian music and teaching 24 hours a day right here in Teslin! Thank you so much for all of those who have given and prayed this into reality.

Lots of snow

Emilie was determined to play on her swingset today.
Here she is trying to dig out the swing

She was very grumpy that she could not swing

She did however, sit on the slide, although a little frustrated

that she could only slide down about 2 inches

She has no idea that it will be another 2 months until all the snow is gone!

Why McDonalds Made Me Cry

Today my lovely husband is out of town, as he has gone to Whitehorse to be with one of our dearest friends who is having surgery. As I had multiple errands that had to be done today, he very thoughtfully arranged for Dawson to be looked after so I would be unencumbered to accomplish all that needed to be done (and without a vehicle I might add). So what does that have to do with McDonald's and my apparently unstable emotional state? Keep Reading!

This morning I had a "telehealth" conference. This involved video conferencing equipment, and I was able to talk with a dietitian from Whitehorse regarding how best to feed Dawson, who has been diagnosed with food allergies. Here's the list so far: chicken, turkey, fish, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts, oranges, tomatoes. Needless to say, it's been very overwhelming. One of the questions I had, was about eating at restaurants in Whitehorse. Since it is a 2 hr drive from our house, we often eat 2 meals in Whitehorse when we go in for shopping and such. The dietitian recommended checking the national chains online to see if they listed ingredients. My first stop, the kids favourite...McDonald's!

I found McDonalds.ca very easy to navigate, and located where they listed nutritional info and ingredients. And that's when my eyes filled with tears. Yes, McDonald's made me cry! It was there that I was assured that Dawson can eat french fries and a plain hamburger (no bun) which are his favourite! Anyone who has children who have allergies, or disabilities affected by food, can understand my joy that he can eat his favorite foods and have it be SAFE!

I am so thankful for this information, and wish that more companies would list this information online. So if you ever happen to run into a McDonald's executive, please tell them Thank You for me for being on the ball!

Disclaimer: Please know that I am not endorsing McDonald's or groups that they may support, simply the fact that they have posted helpful information on their website, which is truly life-saving for those with food allergies & sensitivities.

I hope that your day has been as uplifting as mine,
Jenny

Moccasins completed!

I enjoyed making these, but it is very hard work! I may never make another pair, so I'm taking lots of pics of these ones!
A friend of mine helped me make these, showing me how to do each step. The beading was the fun part--the border and big flower is my friend's design, and the rest was my own. I was not very good or quick at sewing them together, so my friend did most of that aspect.

The fur is beaver.

Good News!

Good News, good news!
Christ died for me
Good News, good news!
if I believe
Good News, good news!
I'm saved eternally
That's wonderful EXTRA good news!

I couldn't resist bursting out into song as I typed the blog title today (gotta love CEF songs)

We received word today that our immigration application is now "in process". Since we mailed it out 6 months ago, we were starting to wonder if it had even arrived! We now even have a Senator who is tracking our file, and it may be because of his inquiry that our case is now moving. Praise the Lord! We are praying for this all to be finalized by September 1st, which would enable Derek to go moose hunting. This may seem like a trivial thing, but now that Dawson can't eat fish or poultry, that limits him to beef, pork, and wild game. A moose would certainly help cut down on our meat bill :-) We are looking forward to our Permanent Resident status being granted--it will make border crossings less of a hassle, and we will be able to file our import paperwork.

Other good news, is that the radio project equipment is en route from Prince George, BC as we speak. This whole project seems to have one problem after another, even having the parts stuck at the Canadian border last week. I don't know what forces have been at work, but I can't help but wonder if Satan is trying to keep this from happening, and God is making sure that it does. You cannot imagine how thrilled we will be to have Christian radio in Teslin!

Our newsletter is getting a little overdue, but thank the Lord, it is because we are busy in His service. God is working in Teslin, and we are thankful for God putting us here to used by Him.

Celebrating the wonderful EXTRA good news of the Gospel,
Derek & Jenny

A Sensitive Heart

This morning at breakfast we were talking about 2 of our good friends.  How funny there were, how they both happened to be from Minnesota, and how they both loved Jesus.  All of a sudden, Emilie got out of her seat and came over to us and said, "I love Jesus" in a really strange tone.  She then walked to the window, and walked back and buried her head in my shoulder.  With tears in her eyes, she said, "I really want to go to Heaven so I can see Jesus."  Derek went on telling Emilie how we can sing to Jesus, but Emilie said emphatically, "I want to see the real Him!"

May this be our constant attitude today, and all through our lives.  It's all about Jesus!
